I’ve been following Paul Butzis’ experiences with his SoFoBoMo project partly because he seems to be able to put into words some of the salient psychological processes that an individual must experience to complete such a project.
I think I’m a perfectionist at heart but in perpetual conflict with the desire to complete my project. I’ve also been an engineer all my life, and engineering does not tolerate perfectionism. As far as engineering is concerned, budget and schedule are king, with results falling where they may.
My personal SoFoBoMo was for me completed much as I would consider the completion of an engineering prototype (It doesn’t need the polish but must capture the essence of the idea). I did two, and am considering doing a third and a fourth. To transform them into real books would somehow have to meet my standards of perfectionism, something I’m not sure I can tolerate.
Maybe I should give it a try, it might take me months or years, and a mental break down.
Zenhdu – What now my friend? I could easily go right or left. But if I go straight ahead I could run into a block, or worse yet, the dark unknown.
