A little variation on a theme as the title suggests. This evenings bike ride was down the road at the back of our land. It’s gravel, thus no danger from Beamers and the few motorists that travel it are very well mannered.
The road starts with a big down hill leg that I walk so that I can see what’s happening. On the right side of the road the grass was slightly disturbed as if an animal had just passed. I crossed to the other side and as I got there a deer jumped up and ran crashing off through the bush. Ah ha, I thought to myself, there’s a Bambi in there just waiting for me. Well I searched but all I found were mosquitoes.
Back to the ride, I bumped into two painted turtles on the side of the road doing their business and then I arrived at a large marsh. This marsh is connected to our beaver pond by a small stream. The marsh is at least ten times larger. There was turtle evidence all around the banks by the road. I squatted by the bank and four Turtles and one Muskrat went cruising by. Not bad for an evenings entertainment.
The Turtles gave me the evil eyeball but the Muskrat didn’t seem to care.
