Two firsts in one day.
A Dragon Fly eating a bug is a first for me combined with the first fishing trip of the year. It’s actually a Damselfly but close enough to a dragonfly to be used synonymously.
I’ve finally confirmed that Dragon Flies eat bugs, now I have to get a photo of one eating a Mosquito. Once I’ve achieved this second objective my third one should be relatively simple.
Learn how to can the dragon flies and release them on command whenever I’m threatened by mosquitoes.
The Dragon fly at first landed on my bare foot. Upon lifting my foot closer to my eyes I could see the bug he was eating. The camera unfortunately was two steps away. Trying to make the move to the camera without disturbing the Dragonfly was not successful. But where is he going to go in the middle of the river? It might have been a more interesting shot if I could have contorted my foot and operated the camera at the same time.
It was a great fishing trip. The mood was almost perfect, a rare combination personal state of mind, weather conditions, location and ambiance.
One of the great things about Canada is that you know, no one is ever going to bother you, this “friendly” condition makes for an entirely different approach to being.
Even caught a Northern Pike. He was grumpy, even though I released him without touching him or taking him out of the water. Another interesting note, if I catch too many fish it’s more like work than play/sport. I figure the optimum rate is about one fish every twenty to forty minutes of fishing. That interval does not include things like breaks for photo ops or eating or dreaming or investigating other wildlife.
Bumped into Scott, a cool dude from New Brunswick. We were both doing a shake down cruise (Make sure all your equipment is working, I think this is the first year everything worked first time) .
Scott caught the largest Small Mouth Bass he has ever seen. I think he is getting to like Ontario
We must have dropped by at least three times for a chat. Probably spent more time yaking than fishing.
Check out the latest fad in fishing boats. They call it a kayak but it’s more like a small canoe with a kayak paddle. It’s stable enough that Scott can actually stand up in it, try that in a real kayak.
I had to quit before sunset, as today I’m on cooking duty back at the homestead.

I have never been fishing. I have always wondered what I was missing. Now I know. Stunning photos.

BobW (Thanks, there are many different ways of fishing, I’m sure there is one just for you)
nice. Fishing is always fun. Great time to just get out and relax. I think fishing is more of a guy thing. I mean, you get up early, go out on the lake, with little or no breakfast, and maybe a cup of coffee in ya, and it does not really matter if you actually catch anything or not, because you come home smelling like fish anyways. It is just a good way to just get out and spend some time in the Truth and beauty of God’s creation and just dwell in the silence and solace of the cool morning.
Nice pictures. and I could have told you Dragon flies eat bugs. seen ‘em eating bees before.
