Mom’s Tail of Horse

Mummy came over to me at the fence to say hello and the foal just had to follow. That is not Dad in the background.

Mom's Tail

With shots like the little one above, I always find myself trying to read into the expressions of the animal. It is a little more abstract shot than one of a human.

The Pair

I also find it interesting how we as humans seem to read the body language of animals. Maybe it is a universal language or just an anthropomorphism.

Grass Needs Cutting

Forget about a hand mower, too tall too much.

Grass is just grass until you look.

Hiding Places for Bugs

I like to leave some long grass for the forest creatures, but for some strange reason the long grass really increases the number of horse and deer flies. For those that don’t know, these guys are big and mount a nasty bite. Provides a real incentive to keep the grass short.

Interestingly these nasty bugs seem to key on dark head hair. Cover your dark hair and it eliminates at least 60% of the beasts.

I have yet to figure if the Dragon flies can handle these monsters. I do notice that the dragon flies do also seem to key on me, and like the old western movies they look like they are riding shotgun. They swoop in and out appearing to be attacking some flying pest from around my head. The action happens so fast I can’t see who is beating up on whom.

I have finally got some shots of dragon flies eating other bugs but so far not the deer or horse flies.

He munches a Bug

I’ve heard it said that dragonfly’s eat mosquitoes, but after seeing them chew down on the bigger bugs, it looks unlikely that they pursue the small stuff.

But back to the grass, it is a shame to need to cut it.

Introducing the Foal

A neighbor has a hobby farm and on it he raises among other things, Llamas and Horses. He has had a couple of new borns that I’ve been waiting for a photo shoot. It happened at sunset yesterday.

If you look carefully you can see another full sized foal in the background lying down.

The Pony

Relative sizes, despite the large ones being in the background.

The Family

I know nothing about horses and even less about miniature ones, but they are cute and friendly.

The Approach

A passer by told me that these miniature horses can be used like seeing eye dogs but live longer than dogs protecting your investment.
